Record Pipeline Equipment Auction, Sept. 28-29
At the end of September, two of the longest-running pipeline companies in the United States will sell their entire fleets. Ritchie Bros. will host an unreserved auction, Sept. 28-29, in Columbus, Ohio, featuring more than 160 pipelayers, along with large-scale dozers and support equipment.
This will be Ritchie Bros.’ largest-ever pipeline equipment auction, with the majority of the inventory coming from Sheehan Pipeline Construction Co., in operation for more than 100 years, and Oliver Pipe & Equipment Inc., with the owner retiring after more than 85 years. The auction also features a major fleet realignment from J-Wood Pipeline Services.
“There’s only been two or three auctions like this in my 37 years in this business. It’s an excellent opportunity for buyers,” said Robert Riess, president and CEO of Sheehan. “The pipeline industry is a small niche group of friends and competitors and I think there will be many people very interested in these assets.”
There are currently more than 1,300 equipment items and trucks listed to be sold, with no minimum bids or reserve prices. Bids can be placed in person, online in real time and by proxy.
Throughout the buildup to the auction, inventory was building daily, according to Terry Dolan, president, USA and Latin America, Ritchie Bros.
“Bidders will have plenty to choose from,” Dolan said. “And for sellers, there’s still time to get involved.”
