Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas HX Series
The recently introduced HX excavator series from Hyundai Construction Equipment Americas includes seven models, ranging in size and power from the 50,000-lb (22,660-kg), 173-hp (129-kW) HX220L model to the 115,520-lb (52,400-kg), 424-hp (316-kW) HX520L model.
New Tier 4 Final engine technologies, a more efficient vertically stacked cooling design, efficient electronic fan clutch, plus many hydraulic system innovations on the Hyundai HX series excavators contribute to an overall fuel efficiency improvement of up to 10 percent compared with 9A series models.
New features like Hyundai’s exclusive AAVM, or All-Around View Monitoring System, System for 360-degree surround virtual operating view, which displays on the 8-in. cluster-monitor, make this new Hyundai HX series among the safest excavators to operate on any jobsite in North America. Included in this 360-degree surround virtual operating view is the IMOD (Intelligent Moving Object Detection) system that senses and warns the operator when objects come within 16.5 ft (5 m) of
the machine.
Enhanced reliability features on the HX Series include reinforced longer-life pins and bushings coupled with wear-resistant polymer shims and newly designed cab shock mounts with dual shock absorption for reduced vibration and noise, which also improves operator comfort.

JCB JS220 Excavator
Weighing in at around 22 tons, the JCB JS220 excavator features a reinforced boom and dipper made of high tensile strength steel, with single piece wrapper plates and internal baffle plates for durability. A highly efficient JCB EcoMAX Tier 4 emission-compliant engine provides offers excellent fuel economy. The JS220’s bucket tear of 34,845 lbf (155kn) enhances productivity, and the special JS range quickhitch system makes attachment changes fast and easy. Hydraulic regeneration recycles oil across the cylinders for faster cycle times and reduced fuel consumption, and auto-idle technology automatically reduces engine speed when hydraulics aren’t in use.
Simultaneous tracking and excavating is smooth and fast with an intuitive multifunction operation, and four operating work modes allow the operator to tailor performance to any application. Cushioned boom and dipper ends prevent shock loadings, protect the machine and increase operator comfort, while six viscous rubber mounts minimize noise and vibration. To keep everything under control, JCB JS220 tracked excavators have a balanced slew and electronic/hydraulic controlled slew braking. Function switches are easy to reach and include the heater and climate control panels, while the side unit doubles as part of the immobilizer code selector.

John Deere 300G LC Excavator
The 300G LC features a 223 hp certified Tier 4 Final John Deere PowerTech PVS 6.8L engine. Operators don’t have to worry about diesel particulate filter (DPF) cleaning as it still occurs automatically with no impact to machine operation. After extensive testing, John Deere’s DPF can go up to 15,000 hours before ash removal. Like its counterparts, the 300G LC features excellent total fluid economy (diesel fuel and DEF).
To increase uptime, John Deere designed the new 300G LC with a larger hood for improved engine access. For convenience, the nine-pin diagnostic connector was moved into the cab to reduce diagnostic testing time for technicians. Other improvements include a single side ground level fluid filter service, which moves the engine oil, fuel, and hydraulic pilot oil filters to ground level on the right side of the machine and adds a service door for easy access to change filters.
Sensor mounting brackets are welded to the boom, arm, dogbone, counterweight, and mainframe at the factory, enabling immediate install of Topcon, Trimble, Leica or other grade reference systems. A programmable thumb attachment mode is also available and enables operators to program oil flow for thumb attachments with the monitor.
Customers will appreciate the new handrails as well. The handrails help maintain contact when climbing the upper structure to service the engine, improving service accessibility and security. The optional light package now includes a hood light to provide greater visibility to the engine compartment to easily see daily service points. The hood light is ideal for customers who work in dark or low light environments, or those who run multiple shifts and may need to conduct late night fuel and lube operations.

Volvo EC220E Excavator
The 22-ton Volvo EC220E is fitted with a top-range Tier 4 Final Volvo D6 engine that meets strict emissions legislation across North America without compromising on power. The fully optimized hydraulics system and ECO mode deliver the precise amount of power required to complete the task in hand, while the auto engine shutdown feature helps further reduce fuel consumption and emissions by switching off after the excavator has been inactive for a pre-set amount of time.
The increased pump input power on the Volvo EC220E enables highly responsive operation for greater productivity and cycle times — and with the boom float function, the pump power normally used for boom lowering can be saved or used for other functions, also reducing cycle times. The new valve controls the boom operation proportionally according to the arm operation while grading. This system also improves lifting controllability while traveling simultaneously. When grading, the operator is now capable of maintaining the bucket teeth parallel to the ground even in H mode during the entire cycle. Fuel efficiency has been improved from previous model by
5 percent.
