PCS Launches New Pipe Coating for Cold Weather Installation
Pittsburgh-based Pipeline Coatings Systems LLC (PCS) announced on March 25 a new pipe coating suitable for cold weather installation.
The company’s new PCS200 is a “true” epoxy coating line consisting of:
- PCS200-35 Cold Weather Epoxy
- PCS200-65 Epoxy Pipeline Coating
- PCS200-95 Hot Weather Epoxy
- ARO200-1 Abrasion Resistant Outer Layer

PCS began its new product launch in 2021 with the PCS200-35, a true cold-weather applied 100 percent epoxy curing down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. PCS200-35 is revolutionary to the industry and is the backbone of the series that was created on the premise of a huge void discovered in the marketplace while developing products for clients in the pipeline integrity sector. A request was brought to the company’s attention years ago that a true high performing, 100 percent epoxy coating for cold weather installation was needed in the pipeline industry. The company, with 60 years of combined experience developing advanced Industrial specialty products, embarked on this journey.
“The additional time we spent in development has paid dividends,” said John Gillen, president of PCS. “We have been able to achieve the longer pot life, faster cure and better performance that were our objectives for development. We were not interested in introducing just another product line to the marketplace, but a better epoxy coating, one that offers the pipeline industry longer pot life during application, faster curing times and better performance.”
The team developed, tested, and refined the 200 Series formulation while capitalizing on their knowledge and experience behind the scenes in product development. Through hard work and dedication, PCS achieved the long-desired goal of creating not only PCS200-35, but the complete Inaugural 200 Series Pipeline Coatings System, that can meet and exceed the demands of the industry while showcasing PCS200- 35 and it’s chemistry, which the company is introducing as the “True Epoxy” pipeline coating for cold weather. PCS200-35 application temperature, epoxy chemistry and coating curing ranges are previously not covered by any “true epoxy” pipeline coating in the current marketplace.
PCS200-35 was designed for application and curing in cold weather. A true epoxy, not a peroxide cured/vinyl ester, as are some brittle cold weather products in the marketplace. This epoxy coating is non-flammable and free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The product was developed for applications temperatures of 20 to 75 F and services temperatures of minus-40 to 190 F. The coating will continue to cure at 20 F and above.
