DCA-Europe Elects New President, Board Members
More than 90 participants, representing 50 member companies, were on hand for the members’ meeting of the Drilling Contractors Association in Europe (DCA-Europe) Feb. 8 in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany.
The main agenda item focused on the election of new board members including the election of Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Marc Schnau, of Bohlen & Doyen GmbH, as president. He has more than 15 years of professional experience in the field of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and is a recognized and esteemed expert of the industry.
Schnau has been a member of DCA-Europe’s board since 2010; until 2015 he was responsible for the care of the association’s members. During this period, he also functioned as head of the Model Bill of Quantities for Horizontal Directional Drillings and Compilation of DCA’s Publications in a Complete Work task groups. Based on the findings of this last mentioned task group, he contributed a lot when the fourth edition of DCA’s Technical Guidelines were formulated. The guidelines are available in three languages. He had been elected vice-president of the association at the members’ meeting in 2016. Additionally, he assumed the role of head of the Coating Quality task group.
In his inaugural address Schau announced that all previous objectives of the DCA-Europe shall be actively pursued in future. Apart from promoting measures for training and further education of qualified drill staff, the DCA-Europe will continue providing and developing technical standards and recommendations. On a European level the interests of all members shall be pooled; thus, the lobby of the HDD industry can be improved in the public or facing clients and authorities. The DCA-Europe will support or initiate measures that further develop the technique, enhance the quality, and coordinate the conditions of contracts and competition.

- Education – Ernst Fengler, LMR Drilling GmbH
After 10 years in the position as president of the DCA-Europe, and 24 years working as a board member, DCA-Europe’s founding member Hermann Lübbers, who was no longer available for re-election for private reasons, addressed the members in attendance. He thanked all members of the DCA-Europe, his board colleagues and the executive for the good cooperation in the past years.
