Applications Now Open for 2022 Bob Westphal Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is sponsored by Benjamin Media, publisher of Trenchless Technology and North American Energy Pipelines, and Continuum Capital, in cooperation with SkillsUSA.
Students should submit applications through the SkillsUSA website at skillsusa.org/membership-resources/scholarships-financial-aid. Click on the arrow next to the Bob Westphal Memorial Scholarship to access the submission form.
In 2021, the program’s inaugural year, four scholarships of $2,500 each were awarded to Gillian Dahn of Austin, Texas; John Kraft of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; Timothy Sparks of Buckeye, West Virginia; and Nick Swank of Medina, Ohio. Dahn and Kraft attend Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana; Sparks attends Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont, West Virginia; and Swank attends Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.

The scholarship was launched at the 2020 Pipeline Leadership Conference in recognition of the impact that the late Robert H. Westphal had on the oil and gas pipeline industry. The program aims to help students interested in pursuing a career in energy construction.
This scholarship honors Westphal who committed a lifetime of leadership in pipeline construction. He gave back to the industry in many ways, including leadership positions with industry associations and in working with labor organizations. His contribution to the pipeline industry will be recognized by this scholarship that will encourage young people to pursue a career in pipelines.
The Bob Westphal Memorial Scholarship is five-year program presented annually, starting with the 2021-2022 school year. Applications can be submitted by anyone pursing an education at a technical/trade school, community college or university. The award for an individual will be for one year.
Applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee comprised of representatives from Benjamin Media, Continuum Capital, SkillsUSA and the Westphal family.
